Novice Northwest Handbag Contest
Novice Northwest Handbag Contest
The Novice Division of the Northwest Handbag Contest is specifically designed to increase confidence for the beginning leatherworker by exhibiting their work while receiving concise, specific feedback about their work. To qualify for the Novice division contestants must not be in business (whether brick & mortar store or online presence), handbags cannot be made under the instruction of a mentor, teacher or class. The maker should not have received any awards in any other Beginner category contest with leatherwork, though not specifically a handbag. This is truly for beginning leatherworker as an exhibition. No prizes will be awarded for this class, but all participants will receive their scoresheet from the panel of three judges.
What is a Handbag? A purse or other carrier made of at least 75% leather, to be worn on the body or carried in the hand, with or without straps, designed to carry/hold personal articles or money.
That means a Handbag can be used by men or women—a briefcase would qualify as a Handbag for the purposes of the contest. We admire the diversity of makers & styles we see at leather shows—and we are encouraging ALL styles of handbag entries in the Northwest Handbag Contest.
Judging & Scoring: we will announce our three person judging panel soon; they will be creative & talented artists who can competently evaluate entries. The three judges will independently evaluate and score each entry.
The Social Media Award will be counted from votes online during the Show. The entry with the most votes from FaceBook/Instagram will will the award. Contestants are encouraged to submit photos to us for this purpose, but is not required.
